With over half a million participants each year, the Student Letter Exchange is the world's largest Pen Pal organization. It dates to 1936, when its founder,a teacher, wanted to add spark to his classroom. He decided that students writi ng students from other countries could stimulate learning and curiosity, as well as a better understanding between cultures.

The current President of the Student Letter Exchange, Wayne Dankert (pictured) recently was unanimously elected the President of the International Federation of Correspondents and Letter Exchanges ,the first American chosen for the honor and was asked by the United Nations to testify before it on the significant contributions of international pen pal exchanges.

The Exchange is just that: an international matchmaker linking over 500,000 students from 183 countries throughout the world each year, some of whom stay in continuous correspondence with their Pen Pals all their adult life!
